Reference designations

Reference Designations (RDS) gives you a clear and logical system to identify components, pages and project areas – across function, location and product – in accordance with IEC 81346, KKS or your own custom standards. The intelligent format ensures that references are handled automatically when copying, assembling and changing – so documentation always remains consistent and accurate.

Gain overview and design consistency by automatically structuring projects based on function (=), location (+) and product (-) with clear readability through either combined aspects or separate aspects depending on your preference.

Reference designations structure the project precisely and consistently

Standardized structure

Supports IEC 81346, KKS and custom standards for reference designations.

One solution – many variants. Clearly documented

Use reference designations to easily document product variants based on which options your customers choose.

Automatic RDS

Reference designations are intelligently handled when changing, copying and combining areas, pages and projects.

High readability

The symbols are displayed with function, location and product aspects, either individually or on RDS frames.

Flexible viewing format

Choose between a single combined reference designation or separated with line breaks or separators.

Draw freely – or start with the structure

Flexibility: Work from a product perspective and start drawing diagrams without defining a general structure or work from a solution perspective and start defining the reference designations.

From Portal to project in just a few steps

1.

Choose your structure – or draw freely

Start with an overall reference designation or start without structure and add it later. You choose whether to build the project from a solution perspective or a product perspective.

2.

Build reference designations automatically

When you paste symbols or copy pages and areas, PC Automation automatically generates the correct reference designations – based on function (=), location (+) and product (-).

3.

Work with the view – combined or separated

You can choose how the reference designations are displayed: as a single notation or split with line breaks. This gives you overview and flexibility no matter how you prefer to work.

4.

Maintain structure when changing and reusing

When copying, combining or changing areas, the system updates all relevant reference designations automatically. This ensures consistency and saves time in documentation.
