Powerdistribution - overview over LV installations
PCSCHEMATIC Powerdistribution is a specially designed programme for creating and maintaining the overview over power installations. Because no extra time is typically scheduled for maintaining the overview over a companys power installations, the programme is designed so that changes can be updated in two minutes - at the most.
The basics of working with the programme can also be learned almost instantly, because it applies already known principles from the Windows Explorer. If you can move a folder in Windows, you will therefore be able to start registering the power installations almost right away.
For projecting, maintenance and operations
„The programme is designed so that it can be easily applied for both projecting, maintenance and operations,“ says Bruno Rossen, programmer in charge of developing the Powerdistribution programme.
„During the projecting phase, the programme is applied for creating a quick survey of the power installation. Also, the calculation functions in the programme and its alarm fields are applied to get a survey of the dimensioning of the mechanical panels, as well as to identify where the net is dimensioned to the load from the attached machines.“
Fast access to component data
„The maintenance department gets fast access to data for the components they are maintaining,“ Bruno Rossen continues, „because it is possible to attach all types of documents to the symbols in the registration. Furthermore, a maintenance-log for each individual component in the registration can be created. When replacing a motor, it is for instance important to know whether it is working continuously, or just activated for ten minutes once an hour.
Because the maintenance department via the programme gets access to the same registration as the operations department, they are also certain to get the most recently updated documents, when performing the maintenance.“
See the net in a larger perspective
„The operations department can benefit from the fact that it is easy to see the net in a larger perspective, and can make a quick search for individual components, or for specified connection patterns in the net.
Furthermore, the operations department can benefit from the fact that the programme can import measuring data from sensors etc., perform calculations based on these data, and issue warnings if specified limit values are exceeded. They can by themselves specify how often to import these data - for instance once every ten minutes. Hence the programme can be applied for concurrent surveillance of the load in the net.
Furthermore, the programme can - at pre-defined hours or with specified time intervals - issue messages that e.g. a specific machine needs checking. When changes in the power installations have been made, the operations department only requires two extra minutes to keep the registration of the installation up to date.“
Keeps it simple - at all stages
„A basic principle in Powerdistribution,“ Bruno Rossen stresses, „is to meet the user at the simplest possible level at all times, in order not to make the things more complicated than they actually are.
If you only need to create a survey of the connectivity in the power installation, you can therefore do with performing a quick registration, without entering component information. This information can then be entered at a later stage, if necessary, for instance via the attached database.“
Recycling existing data
Because the programme can be applied to attach all information to the registered components in the installation, it is also possible to import data to several registered components at the same time. If for instance you have an Excel document containing information on the power consumption and revolutions for all motors in the installation, this information can be imported directly into the programme. This way you do not have to enter information, that already exists elsewhere.
Fetch data from the database
You also have the option to fetch component data from all of the PCSCHEMATIC databases, from your own existing database - via practically any possible database format -, or you can create a new database with component data from scratch.
This way you only need to enter component data for each component once. These data can then be attached automatically to the symbols in the registration.
The master electrician rules
„Even further, the master electrician can specify who has which rights to make changes in the registration,“ Bruno Rossen continues. „The maintenance department might for instance only be allowed to make changes in the maintenance logs for the components, while the operations department might be allowed to make changes in the registration of the installation.
Others again might only be allowed to view the registration. By applying these different access levels, you do not risk unauthorized changes in the registration. The programme also maintains a log over the changes made in the registration, since the programme was last saved.“
Overview of all attached documents
„With this programme it becomes possible for the master electrician to create an overview of all that has to do with the installation. This is because you can also attach documents from other programmes to the individual symbols in the registration. This being for instance technical specifications for a motor, existing as a Word document, as a pdf file or another file format. Or perhaps an AutoCAD document, or an electrical documentation project from PCSCHEMATIC Automation.“
Reports to Excel and PCSCHEMATIC Automation
Finally, you can print different reports describing the installation, or parts of the installation. These reports can for instance be created as Microsoft Excel documents - where they can be inserted directly into Excel templates - or can be transferred to the electrical documentation programme PCSCHEMATIC Automation.
