Cable wires in electrical CAD software

Keeping track of cable wires and automatic generation of graphical cable plans, has for long been on the top of the wish list for electrical engineers and electricians. The wish is met in the electrical CAD software PCSCHEMATIC Automation, that has an international database containing cable colour codes.
Keeping track of which cable wires are being used, and which are currently available, has so far been hard to do in a comprehensive electrical documentation.
The fact that the electrical CAD-program PCSCHEMATIC Automation not only handles this, but also generates graphical cable plans automatically, is therefore long awaited news within the field of electrical documentation.
Combining the easy accessibility of the new cable wire functions with the strong database facilities of the program makes this news even more interesting.
The software keeps track of the cable wires
PCSCHEMATIC Automation is created from the basic concept of setting the user free to concentrate on the electrical aspects, while the program handles the practical details. For each cable in the documentation the program therefore keeps track of which cables have been used, and which are still available.

This follows the same guidelines as when the program for instance keeps track of used and available I/O points for PLCs. All you have to do is therefore to pick a cable in the database, and then point out which lines on the diagrams are representing the cable wires.
When you specify that a line on a diagram is a wire in a cable, you get a survey of the available cable wires for this specific cable. Here you for instance choose that the line is the red wire in the cable. If you later exclude the line from the cable, it is once again possible to choose the red wire, the next time you pick cable wires for the same cable.
Cables containing colour codes in the database
On the free electrical component manufacturer database for PCSCHEMATIC Automation, you will find a database containing cables from the company NKT Cables. This cable database not only contains electrical symbols for the cables and article data, it also contains colour codes for each individual cable.
When you fetch a cable using this database, the colour code information is automatically transferred to your electrical documentation. Furthermore, this information is passed on to the graphical cable plans, which the program generates automatically.
When you choose cables from the database, you also transfer article data for the cable to the parts- and components lists, which are updated automatically by the program. You can therefore concentrate on the electrical aspects, and let the program handle the practical details in cooperation with the powerful database facilities.
Different naming standards included
In practice there exists noumerous colour code standards for cables. Therefore a set of files are included with the database, covering the most common naming standards on the area. When you want to add cables to the program database, you can therefore apply these standards. If you should need a special standard, it is very easy to specify a new one.
Generates Graphical cable plans automatically
When you have created the documentaion specifying the applied cable wires, you can have cable lists and graphical cable plans generated automatically. As for the many other types lists in the program, the cable list can either be printed out, or created as a text file, which can be imported in other programs. In the graphical cable plan you can control the appearance of the various types of lines, so that the company standards are followed.
In the graphical cable plan you can also include the wire numbers used in the documentation - for instance generated from the automatic wire numbering function in PCSCHEMATIC. Graphical cable plans can also be updated automatically by the program. As for the graphical terminal plans in PCSCHEMATIC, it is easy to determine the appearance of the graphical cable plans.
